Seventh Grade GOALS Program

November 2007

G.O.A.L.S (Get Out and Learn, Students!)

The GOALS program is based on educational research which illustrates that incentives help people meet goals. Our program is designed to reward and encourage those who already meet the expectations of Copley-Fairlawn Middle School, while inspiring others who need some extra motivation.

Those students who meet the established criteria will receive small incentives throughout the year and larger, social events at the end of the grading period. If students do not meet the criteria, they will be placed in focus groups where they will work on various academic content standards and be encouraged to meet the GOALS criteria for the next incentive.

TO QUALIFY FOR THE INCENTIVES, STUDENTS MUST MEET THE BEHAVIOR AND ACADEMIC CRITERIA.

  • Behavior: Students will be expected to earn daily points. You will have the opportunity to earn daily points for the following: exhibiting appropriate school-wide behavior (classes, hallways, buses and lunch) and bringing materials and arriving on time to all classes.
  • Academics: Students will be expected to achieve academically and exhibit a willingness to learn, seek help, and take responsibility for their learning. Expectations for the academic component will rise throughout the school year. Criteria for the first incentive will be a 66% or higher in all six core classes to meet the academic portion of the incentive.

Teachers and staff will work with students to encourage academic success and appropriate behavioral skills building-wide. Criteria for academics and behavior will increase as we progress through the school year. An administrator can remove incentive privileges if deemed necessary.

Our positive school climate will promote learning and encourage the desirable behaviors that make CFMS the BEST!
