Meeting Minutes - 10/09/07

The meeting was called to order at 10AM by President Cheryl Wells.

The September 11 minutes were read, approved, and filed as written.

Officers Reports:
a.  Treasurer's Report was given by Leslie Stoyer.  Receipts paid out, membership dues and money turned in from magazine sales was reviewed.
b.  President's Report by Cheryl Wells.
c.  A card was circulated for Mrs. Berkowitz.  Those who wish to send cards may send them to the main office and they will be forwarded.
d.  Binders for committee chairs are available.  Cheryl still has a few to hand out.
e.  The website is up and running.  Cheryl is in charge of this.
f.  Fifth grade parents conferences will be schedule shortly.  Information will come home with the students.
g.  Seventh and eighth grade dance is scheduled on October 26th.  This is the same day as the halloween parties for the classrooms.
h.  Council Report was given by Beth Hofacker.  See attached report link  Council Report October Meeting.htm
i.  Membership committee:  Cheryl Wells reported for Janet Tektas.  PTA Membership is currently at 301 members.  The goal is 440 members.
j.  Principal's Report:  Brian Poe.  Mr. Poe was introduced.  He gave an overview of the transition.  A principal search will be started.

The curriculum changes that were previously made will be going forward.  It was reported that we are 1/4 of the way into the year.  There is a positive feel in the building.  The leaning lab is being put in place for the 5th and 6th grade.  Mr. Poe is available for questions via the phone or e-mail.  He is open to communication.  He then opened the floor for questions.

Committee Reports:
a.  Laurel Hausmesser reported on cookies for hospice.  A sign up sheet was sent around for volunteers to bake cookies.  Once a week cookies are delivered to Hospice and twice a year there is a large cookie bake for cookies to be delivered to patients and families in the home.
b.  Jeannie Alexander reported on Magazine Sales.  3,600 magazine orders were turned in.  This will give PTA a profit of greater than $30,000 if all subscriptions are paid for.  Approximately 450 of 1,100 students participated.  To check orders, you may go to the PTA website and there is a link to the magazine sales.
c.  Veteran's Day:  Jill Pangas.  Invitations have been sent out.  RSVP's are asked to be turned in by November 2nd.  An ad was also placed in the Akron Beacon Journal and the West Side Leader.  This may result in a larger turnout.  The event begins at 8:45AM in the North Gym.  Breakfast for veterans will be immediately after.  Jill Pangas sent a circulation asking for help with food for the breakfast and assistance with serving.

None

New Business:
a.  Helping Hands/Educator of the Year.  Cheryl Wells handed out forms.  A committee will choose the recipients.
b.  Reflections Art Show is coming up.  Victoria Banit reported that letters would be going out soon.  Volunteers would be appreciated.
c.  Conference Dinners:  October 25th is the first one.  Maria Schneider is in charge and will be contacting those who have volunteered.
d.  District 13 Workshops are on October 27th.  They are free of charge.  Anyone interested should contact Belinda Check or Cheryl Wells.
